What Is
Impotence
A lot of men, both old and young, experience
problems with their sex life at least once or twice in
their lifetime due to physical and psychological problems
as well as the lifestyle that they live on. One of these
problems, very common and frustrating among men of today,
is known as impotence. Impotence, otherwise
known as erectile dysfunction, is the inability to achieve
an erection and that the condition continuously occurs for
weeks. A man who is impotent either can’t achieve one
sufficient enough for sexual intercourse or can’t maintain
his erection during sex. Impotence could also mean not
being able to ejaculate during orgasm, which could cause a
lot of discontent and dissatisfaction between you and your
partner.
If this is what is happening to you now, you
need to know just what is
impotence, the causes of such a condition, and of
course the solutions for treatment. The first thing to do is
to see your doctor if you have been experiencing the
symptoms of impotence for quite some time already. These
symptoms include not being able to achieve an erection
though you are sexually aroused and stimulated, not being
able to maintain your erection, and of course not being able
to ejaculate. The instances where one experiences these
symptoms may vary, making detection so much more difficult,
but the number of American men who are affected by impotence
according to research can be 10 out of 15 million.
One thing that has to be cleared about the
causes of impotence is that it isn’t entirely
psychological. Whenever you read articles that talks about
what is impotence and the causes of the condition, you would
usually read paragraphs talking about how impotence is
mostly psychological or emotional. In truth, 70% of the
cases of impotence are caused by physical problems like
underlying diseases and damage from surgery or injury.
This is why your doctor would ask you a
series of questions regarding your physical and sexual
history to assess if a physical problem or cause is the
reason behind the impotency. He or she would also begin a
thorough physical examination on you and would even refer
you to a hospital to have your ultrasound x-ray done to see
if there is any problem with your blood vessels, kidney and
liver function, etc.
